Looking forward
Personal goal #1 (occupational/social/intellectual): Right now a goal that I'm working on is securing my first full-time job in a state far away from my home state of Michigan. My preferred destinations are Austin, Texas and Denver, Colorado. This is important to me because I want to get my foot in the door in the professional world working an entry-level job that I enjoy, and also moving to a new part of the country will allow me to get out of my comfort zone, meet new people and experience things I haven't before. I'm looking forward to starting a new chapter of my life in this regard.
I've taken the steps in getting assistance from this university in helping me with my job search, and I'm going to continue to use all the tools at my disposal when it comes to this process. I will also ask for advice from family members and friends regarding job interviews and moving to a new big city.
Personal goal #2 (social/emotional/mental): I've never really been in a serious relationship, so as a young adult this is definitely a personal goal of mine. For me I think the ability to accomplish this happily is directly related to my emotional/mental wellness, so it all really ties together (I have to love myself in order to love others!). In the last couple of years I've made some massive strides in self-improvement and personal development, so I'm confident that I can continue on this upward path of expanding my boundaries, learning from my mistakes and growing.
I've found that reading wellness material can be very effective in shifting my perspective and changing my mentality on certain things, so I will continue to read material that I think will benefit me and I can learn from. I'll also not be afraid to be vulnerable and ask for help from friends when I could use it, as I did this past school year.
Outward goal #1 (physical): Playing sports recreationally has always been a passionate hobby of mine, so a goal I have in the future is to find a group of people in my community the share my interest and set aside time to do this as a group on a regular basis. In my time at this school I've accomplished this by organizing intramural sports teams which have been fun, so I'd love to be able to continue to do some form of this in the future wherever I end up. I think I can do this by attending rec centers, searching online for any leagues that get together, or just through being social with those around me and asking if they want to meet up and do something.
Outward goal #2 (social): This is pretty general but I've noticed over the years that once I get comfortable in any workplace or social scene, I have the ability to bring a lot of humor and light-heartedness to any situation that can brighten people's moods. So, a goal of mine is to just continue to be a person that brings positive energy and can make people around me laugh. This in turn makes me happy and gives my daily life meaning and purpose.
To accomplish this, I need to stay true to my wellness philosophy and surround myself with people who encourage a healthy mindset and allow me to share this positive energy.
