reflections on idi
I thought this was an interesting survey to fill out and going into my meeting I was curious to see what my results would say. My score on the developmental orientation chart was 108, falling into the "minimization" category. This was below my perceived score of 124, which wasn't surprising to me. Being from a middle-class suburb, I know that there's a still a lot to learn about other cultures and backgrounds that I wasn't exposed to growing up, and I knew it was likely that I overestimated my awareness.
At many of the jobs I've had over the years, I've worked with very racially diverse groups of people for extended periods of time which have been great opportunities for learning and growth for me. In the future, I plan to continue to get to know people from different backgrounds when presented with these opportunities so that I can further understand differences between cultures and work toward a more "adaptive" mindset on intercultural identity.
